If that headline doesn’t grab your attention, nothing will. At today’s club meeting, and on the heels of an alarming report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, author, speaker and Atlanta native Dr. Katharine Wilkinson delivered a sobering but optimistic talk about our rapidly warming world.
Drawing on her New York Times bestseller Drawdown: The Most Comprehensive Plan Ever Proposed to Reverse Global Warming, Dr. Wilkinson outlined specific strategies and their project impact on reversing the trend. Taken together, Dr. Wilkinson and her colleagues at Project Drawdown believe the strategies would solve the global problem completely – but only if we get serious now.
There were some obvious opportunities, like tamping down the disproportionately powerful greenhouse gases (HFCs) associated with air conditioning and refrigeration. But there were a few surprises, too, like educating more girls. Browse Project Drawdown’s entire roster of recommendations and their projected impact estimates at their website (an excellent resource for anyone interested in this topic), or listen to Dr. Wilkinson’s talk – which earned a rare standing ovation from club members – via our “Leadership in Action” podcast.
