Morehouse School of Medicine President Takes on Racial Health Disparities

Interviewed by Spelman College president Mary Schmidt Campbell, Ph.D., Valerie Montgomery Rice of Morehouse School of Medicine shared with the club today her views on health disparities, the need to diversify the healthcare workforce to help reduce those disparities, and the exciting development of Morehouse School of Medicine’s westside campus.

In partnership with local real estate development firms Carter and Oakwood Development, Morehouse School of Medicine is building a “new gateway” to the Atlanta University Center in Atlanta’s Historic West End. The planned 7.2-acre mixed use real estate development will include new housing, health and wellness facilities, and retail development for students, faculty and staff. The three-phase development is scheduled to be completed in summer 2020.

Read more about the planned development in a recent article by club member Maria Saporta and listen to Dr. Rice’s interview with Dr. Schmidt via our “Leadership in Action” podcast series.
