On July 9th, club president John O’Neill presented the Rotary Club of Atlanta’s first-ever “Rotary Hero” Award to respected Atlanta journalist and longtime club member Maria Saporta. Saporta has written a column for the Atlanta Business Chronicle since 2008; prior to joining the Chronicle she spent 27 years at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the bulk of those years as a business columnist. The Rotary Hero award recognizes “courage, outstanding achievement and noble qualities.” The award was a surprise to Maria, but ever the journalist, she might have sniffed it out beforehand.
