For 30-plus years, the inflation portion of the Federal Reserve's dual mandate has not been a serious concern for most Americans, mostly registering far lower than 3 percent per year. Now, with sustained supply chain disruptions, a move to ‘post-COVID normal’ and growing expectations for higher inflation across the Southeast, there are trends that could create permanent shifts in the long-run trajectory of inflation.
