RICHARD M. STORMONT was this year’s recipient of the BERT ADAMS INTERNATIONAL SERVICE AWARD represented by a beautiful glass globe (Dick is pictured holding the “whole world in his hands”).
This award is given to the member who has performed outstanding voluntary service in carrying out the 4th object of Rotary, international service. Dick, President in 2007-2008 and Board Chair in 2008-2009, was most recently the driving force behind Atlanta and Georgia’s pursuing the Rotary International Convention for 2017. Rotary International President John Kenny announced last week at the Rotary International Convention in Montreal that Atlanta has been chosen!
Dick is one of the founders and serves as Chairman Emeritus of the Atlanta St. Patrick’s Day Foundation. He is an active member of the Shamrock Society, a group of Irish and Irish/American leaders in Atlanta who support Irish values of family, faith and charity.

JOHN W. SOMERHALDER II was awarded the ARMIN MAIER COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD named for Past President Frank Maier's grandfather. The award is presented to the member who has performed the most outstanding service in the past year in carrying out the 3rd object of Rotary, Community Service.
John chaired the 2009-10 United Way Campaign and will serve again as the 2010-11 chair. He services on the boards of the Gas Technology Institute, the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce and the Georgia Chamber of Commerce. John sets an example of “service above self” for not only this club but AGL. He has also served as a hands-on project leader for five Habitat for Humanity homes built by AGL Resources volunteers.
